Honors High School English
This course is a full year course, two semesters totaling 32 weeks in length. Class meets 1 hour and 45 minutes each week online with class discussion with other students as well as with the teacher. Class includes SAT vocabulary prep, grammar, literature & poetry analysis and composition skills are taught. (Class time breakdown as follows 15 minute SAT vocabulary, builder, homework review 10 min, Grammar 20 min, Literature/Poetry Analysis 30 min and Composition Skills 30 minutes.)
Class Online Meeting Time will be Tuesdays 10:15-12:00 (PST)
Semester I: The Life and works of William Shakespeare (Book list coming soon!) Four Shakespeare plays will be chosen. For each play, the students will learn the historical background of the play, literary terms and familiar story structures that Shakespeare used to write his plays. Students will produce four compositions - one literary analysis composition for each play studied.
Semester II: The Life and works of C.S. Lewis (Book list coming soon!) Four C.S. Lewis novels will be analyzed. For each novel, the students will learn about the time period that the novel was written, literary terms and the unique writing style that Lewis used to write his novels. Students will produce four compositions during second semester, one for each novel. The cost for the High School Honors Literature & Compositionis $650, to be paid in full by August, or on the following payment plan:
$50 non-refundable deposit due at the time of registration in order to secure a place in the class. Fee goes toward the price of the class.
$300 first-semester payment due August.
$300 second-semester payment due January.
If registering more than one student, please add a 3% surcharge for PayPal and/or credit card payments. A late fee of $25 will be charged for any payments over two weeks late.
